一 |     Convinced social media platforms are fueling a mental health crisis among the nation’s youth, public officials in New York announced new legislation Wednesday that would restrict algorithms that target young users."Young New Yorkers are struggling with record levels of anxiety and depression, and social media companies that use addictive features to keep minors on their platforms longer are largely to blame," New York Attorney General Letitia James said.The legislation would, among other things, give her office new enforcement power over social media companies.Algorithmic feeds are designed to harness personal data to serve users content that keeps them engaged for as long as possible. Sponsors of the legislation said that has increased the addictive nature of social media platforms and heightened the risk to young users’ well-being.Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube would all be subject to the legislation that allows users under 18 to opt out of receiving algorithmic feeds, allow parents to allow algorithmic feeds to limit access between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. and prohibit social media platforms from sending notifications to minors during those same hours without verifiable parental consent.The attorney general’s office would be authorized to bring an action to enjoin or seek damages or civil penalties of up to $5,000 per violation.Back in May, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy warned that excessive social media use can be a "profound risk" to the mental health of youth in the United States."I’m very concerned that social media has become an important contributor to the pain and the struggles that many of our young people are facing," Murthy said in an interview on ABC News Live.A surgeon general’s advisory is "reserved for significant public health challenges that require the nation’s immediate awareness and action," according to the report released by the surgeon general’s office.The surgeon general said that while we’re in the "middle of a youth mental health crisis" it’s important to identify possible causes. The advisory recognizes that social media has both positive and negative effects on young people, but that ultimately there’s not enough "research and clear data" to determine if it’s "safe" for adolescents to use.。    이승재 한국에너지기술평가원 원장(왼쪽 일곱 번째) 등 관계자들이 8월 25일 서울 양재 엘타워에서 ‘기후에너지산업 인력양성 및 청년 일자리 창출을 위한 협력 양해각서(MOU)’를 체결한 뒤 포즈를 취하고 있다. 한국에너지기술평가원(에기평)이 8월 25일 서울 양재 엘타워에서 ‘2026 기후에너지 일자리 박람회’를 개최했다. 이번 박람회에는 대기업과 중소·중견기업, 공기업, 연구기관 등 기후에너지 분야 100여 개 기업·기관과 청년 1000여 명이 참여했다. 기후에너지환경부와 에기평은 에너지인력양성사업으로 육성한 인재와 산업 현장의 채용 수요를 연결하고, 청년 구직자에게 직무·채용 정보를 제공했다. 채용상담관에서는 주요 기업과 공기업, 연구기관이 1대1 채용 상담을 진행했다. 이력서 매칭과 진로·적성 컨설팅 등 취업 지원 프로그램도 운영했다. ‘일자리 커리어 밋-업’에서는 취업 특강과 성과 발표, 기업·기관 채용설명회를 열어 채용계획과 주요 직무, 필요 역량 등을 소개했다. 에너지혁신인재포럼에서는 에너지인력양성사업 우수성과 시상식과 ‘기후에너지산업 인력양성 및 청년 일자리 창출을 위한 협력 양해각서(MOU)’ 체결식도 열렸다. 기후에너지환경부와 4개 지방자치단체, 삼성물산·LG에너지솔루션·GS건설·SK이노베이션 등 8개 기업이 인재 양성과 채용정보 공유 등에 협력하기로 했다. 우수 연구자와 수혜 인재에게는 기후에너지환경부 장관상 5점, 지방자치단체상 4점, 에기평 원장상 11점 등 총 20점을 수여했다. 이승재 에기평 원장은 “에너지인력양성과 취업 연계를 강화해 청년 인재의 성장과 산업 현장 진출을 지원하겠다”고 말했다.。
